Geisinger is proud to offer a robust selection of PGY1 and PGY2 residency training opportunities across our service region. Our programs create opportunities for residents in acute care and ambulatory care settings of all types, allowing residents to train in the setting in which they feel most comfortable or plan to start their career. From smaller, rural hospitals where the pharmacist is the medication expert for several services to larger medical centers with specialized services, the hospital-based programs each offer their own unique pharmacy character while maintaining the innovative pharmacy practice Geisinger strives to uphold. Residency programs in our ambulatory care facilities meet the rigors set forth in the hospital-based programs, but tailor the practice environment to caring for chronic conditions.

All pharmacy residency programs at Geisinger are accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. The programs are designed to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists who are responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification and eligible to apply for future training programs.

Besides residencies, Geisinger is proud to offer a postdoctoral fellowship in research and innovation. This two-year program is designed to develop pharmacists with an interest in transforming pharmacy practice through research and innovation so they can step into a research or leadership position with confidence and skill.

As a fourth-year medical student, I knew I wanted a surgical residency. I thought I wanted a big academic medical center, but then I had a rotation at my dream hospital. I did not see junior residents operating much. I thought I did more as a medical student than some of the second-year residents I observed. What attracted me to Geisinger was the early operative experiences for residents. When I was done with residency, I wanted to be able to hit the ground running with my surgical skills. That’s what I got at Geisinger.

Neurosurgery has very high rewards because the risk is so great. When someone has a deficit and the surgery fixes it and function returns, the reward you feel is amazing. Commission on Dental Accreditation third-party comments

Geisinger will undergo an accreditation site visit by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), Oct. 30, 2025, for a request to accredit a General Practice Dentistry Residency.

CODA is now accepting any third-party comments related to the CODA-assigned standards and policies. Comments must be sent to CODA at least 60 days before the Oct. 30 site visit.

Guidelines for viewing the standards and submitting comments 

Who can submit comments

Communities of interest and the public, such as faculty, staff, students, program administrators, dental-related organizations, patients and consumers.
How can you submit a comment?

You can submit a comment by emailing or calling CODA. The deadline for receipt of third-party comments in the commission office is 60 days prior to the site visit. Comments must pertain only to the standards for the particular program or policies and procedures used in the commission’s accreditation process. A copy of the appropriate accreditation standards and/or the commission’s policy on third-party comments may be obtained by calling the commission at 312-440-4653 or via email to the appropriate commission staff member. Do not send comments to the commission office via the U.S. Postal Service.
What types of comments are considered?

All comments submitted must pertain only to the standards relative to the particular program being reviewed or policies and procedures used in the accreditation process. Comments will be screened by commission staff for relevancy. For comments not relevant to these issues, you will be notified that the comment is not related to accreditation and, where appropriate, referred to the appropriate agency. If you are interested in submitting comments, you can make a request to the commission office for receiving standards and/or the commission’s Evaluation and Operational Policies and Procedures manual.
How are comments managed?

All relevant comments will have signatures removed and will then be referred to the program at least 50 days prior to the site visit for review and response. Negative comments received after the established deadline of 60 days prior to the site visit will be handled as a complaint.
